VIEW Launching Event & People’s Power and Imagination Photograph Exhibition

A photograph exhibition showcasing voters portraits which encourage public to safeguard their voter rights by active participation in the election process. The event was participated by 230 people, including representatives from election monitoring organizations.

NIC Mobile Service with CMEV

Supported CMEV to conduct 13 NIC mobile services in the Northern Province which benefited over four thousands of voters.

August 11-October 12, 2016

#YouthVoteSL Petition Campaign

Joined IFES and Election Commission Program #YouthVoteSL and launched a petition campaign involved engagement 1948 individuals in 55 village within a short time period. 1500 leaflets on voter rights distributed. The effort was awarded the most effective campaign by the Election Commission at the end of the campaign period.

Supported PAFFRIEL on its Clean Politics Campaign and organized 43 programs gathering 2270 people and send 43 request letters demanding political parties to follow proper criteria when nominating election candidate

Meetings with Election Commissioner

93 youth advocates for a proper voter registration process that includes all citizens who are 18 years or older. This campaign led to legislation that addressed the issue of voting rights for those 18 and older.

The series of voter education engaged with 3135 people from 145 grassroots meeting.

1,484 people trained on technique and knowledge required for conducting long-term election observation in the field through 5 training programs.

2,085 people increased awareness of citizens’ responsibilities to promote free and fair elections and engage in self-motivated reporting of election law violations through 78 programs.

Roar.lk Online Civic Education on Electoral Process and Voters’ Responsibilities

Cooperated with Roar.lk, 12 trilingual articles on election integrity related topics were published, attracting over 20,000 views.

Citizen Reporter Introduction Program and Presidential Debate

Co-host the first Presidential Debate in collaboration with the March 12 Movement. Mobilized 2530 people from across the country to join this historical event with with 10 political parties and presidential candidates.

Submission of Election Law Violation Mitigation Proposal to Election Commission

Submitted a proposal on strategies to mitigate election (law) violations to the Election Commission.

Social Media Monitoring on 2019 Presidential Election

The mission received 2,299 complaints on fake news, hate speech, misinformation/disinformation, and campaign during cooling period and referred 1,385 complaint to the election commission.

Citizen Reporter Introduction Session

Conducted 5 program to train 164 youth facilitators on citizen reporting concept for free and fair elections.

VIEW Social Media Monitoring for Parliamentary Election 2020

Engaged with 54 youth volunteers, the mission received 6,029 social media complaint on fake news, hate speech, misinformation, disinformation, and other election law violations against the media guidelines and relevant election regulations. 3,450 complaints were accepted by the mission and referred to the Election Commission / Police Department / Human Rights Commission. Additionally 1,269 complaint were directly referred to the social media platform.

VIEW Citizen Reporting for Parliamentary Election 2020

The mission worked with 412 youth facilitators across the island and over 3,000 community members who signed up as citizen reporters. This joint efforts gathered 3,306 complaint on election (law) violations and refereed to the Election Commission.

Youth-led Public Campaign on Citizen Responsibilities

31 campaigns were conducted with the support of approximately 400 youth volunteers. Nearly 6,000 people were delivered public speech by youth leaders on responsible voters for promoting better governance.

Community Democracy Forum

Reached 2,821 people though 157 forums and improved their understanding about citizen’s responsibility on free and fair election. 499 people newly signed up as citizen reporters.

Strengthening Citizen Reporting Network for Elections

593 people newly engaged with the mission as citizen reporters through 33 meeting about campaigns and political parties’ actions during the past election period.

February 10-17, 2023

Citizen Reporting Training-Southern Region

The mission trained 278 youth in Sinhala and Tamil medium and received 155 complaints on election law violations before the Local Government election was officially postponed.

February 15, 2023

Press Conference with Delimitation Commission

Citizen reporting coordinators and the Delimitation Commission held a joint press conference to urge the government to ensure that people’s democratic rights are protected by holding timely elections.

International Democracy Day Ayachchana Mock Poll on Elections

The mission conducted a mock poll with 60 youth and invited involvement from election observation organizations in Sri Lanka, including the Centre for Monitoring Election Violence (CMEV), Campaign for Free and Fair Elections (CaFFE) to explore public opinions about the need of conducting elections in the country at the moment. 742 citizens voluntarily cast their votes, with 90.59% expressing a demand for elections

The opening ceremony wa attended by delegates from embassies and election monitoring organizations, including People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL), Centre for Monitoring Election Violence (CMEV), Institute for Democratic Reforms and Electoral Studies (IRES), Movement for Free and Fair Elections (MFFE), and Mothers and Daughters of Lanka (MDL).

VIEW Meeting with Political Parties on Election Situation

VIEW conducted a series of meeting with election stakeholders, including all the main political parties, senior police officers at the police headquarters, and the Human Right Commission and the RTI Commission to understand the current election context, prospective and prepare background the upcoming citizen reporting mission.
