Our Story
Established in 2013 as an initiative of the AFRIEL Youth Network, VIEW has supported various monitoring bodies and advancing election observation efforts throughout Sri Lanka.
In 2019, VIEW and AFRIEL embarked on transformative moves aimed at reshaping Sri Lanka’s political culture. A notable achievement was co-hosting the ‘Public Platform’ with the March 12 Movement, which featured the first-ever Presidential Debate of 2019. This landmark event facilitated direct interaction between voters and political leaders, fostering informed civic engagement and encouraging policy-focused dialogue.
Additionally, during the 2019 Presidential Election and the 2020 Parliamentary Election, VIEW conducted social media monitoring, overall election monitoring through citizen reporting, and mobile observation. In 2019, VIEW’s social media monitoring attracted significant attention, and in the 2020 Parliamentary Election, the organization managed and referred thousands of reports and complaints concerning election law violations.
Currently, VIEW is operating citizen reporting across the island for the Presidential Election scheduled to be held on September 21. Through this effort, we continue to monitor and address electoral violations, ensuring fairness in the electoral process.
